A Design Model for Electric Environmental Control System in Aircraft Conceptual and Preliminary Design

In present decades, the need for a more efficient air transport system is driving towards electric aircraft subsystems. Electrified subsystems offer opportunity to optimize operational performance of systems by reducing power required propulsion therefore, fuel burnt. A considerable advantage can be obtained electrifying environmental control which most demanding subsystem. The paper presents simplified model estimate main performances conventional and electrified during conceptual preliminary design phases. Different cycle machine architectures designed. divided in two modules. first dedicated estimation thermal loads including effect solar radiation, conduction external air, presence passengers avionic systems. With result estimating cabin airflow temperature quality within aircraft’s mission profile. second module designs all major components conditioning pack compressors system. requires basic input data that easily estimated early stages design. calibrated using available then applied one. results show increased efficiency from optimizing both pneumatic generation machine.
